RICH IN OPINION: Why I took Heather’s exit from ‘The Bachelor’ so personally

Heather
The Bachelor Australia 2015

She was the first girl to arrive and be introduced to this year’s bachelor, Sam Wood. She wore a modest black sequined gown and even address Bachie as “dude” just a few sentences in to the conversation. And just like that, Heather Maltman became Australia’s newest sweetheart.

#TeamHeather

That was the moment I fell in love with Heather. She was real. She was laid back and she was COOL. I’m certain I’m not the only one who could pinpoint that moment to be their Heather moment and from then, I was one of her biggest cheerleaders until Bachie (which was also a nickname that Heather had concocted during this season) said goodbye to her on Thursday night.

Samuel Wood. What – the – FUCK – were – you – THINKING?!

Yeah, thought so!

Right from the start we loved Heather and as the show went on we fell in love with her even more regardless of how the show’s editors portrayed her to be this jealous “girlfriend” when the other girls would brag about their one-on-one dates with Sam. You couldn’t fake her modesty, her attitude towards being the best of mates first and allowing it to grow into something more and she was quirky in the most BEAUTIFUL way.

Don’t tell me you’ve NEVER pulled a face like this before.

I loved how she came back to the house, cheerful, happy, smitten and always with a red rose. But she would NEVER kiss and tell. She was never catty like some of the other girls (ie. Nina), she wasn’t a princess with a complex (ie. Emily) and she was so sentimental with her White Rose date (I mean, come on… a superhero date with jelly wrestling? How COOL is that?!) and her “Meet the Family” date on the night she got evicted.

URGH, dem feels!

When Sam picked Lana over Heather (who, in my opinion, is just a downgrade version of Heather. I mean, come on… she came a very similar black sequined dress and looks very similar) my heart SANK for her and I’m so certain that I cried more than what Heather did on the show and even after the cameras stopped rolling.

We all love you Heather!

So why did I take it so personally? You could see that Heather had her heart of gold in the right place and throughout the whole season she remained true to herself and knew what she wanted from Sam. Even with all her quirkiness and insecurities there was something just so downright wholesome about the chick and it’s a rare thing to see in this day and age. And the saddest part about all of this is is that although Heather was all these wonderful, beautiful, kick-ass things… she STILL wasn’t Bachie’s top 3 and since we loved Heather so much we all felt like we were just dumped by Bachie on national television.

The moment EVERYONE’S heart broke

You couldn’t help but feel for the girl because her intentions was true and STILL Sam preferred the others over her. We ALL wanting to see at the finale the ‘happily ever after moment’ but we were all completely robbed of that. Thanks Bachie!
And to add insult to injury, did anyone else feel like every time they saw or read an article about him and one of the other girls, it was like seeing your ex with their few love interest? What a kick in the teeth.

It is with such a heavy heart to see Heather not grace our screens anymore and I even remember the morning after her eviction my heart was still so full of sorrow for her, which is the reason why I decided to write this post.

Sending all my love to Heather and her future endeavors and I am SO cheering you on to be The Bachelorette 2016! Anyone with me?
